The Extraordinary Emerges From Consistency of the Ordinary

Consistency is simple, but it is not easy

We hear of those who make extraordinary progress in all fields of human endeavor ranging science, business, writing, art, and sports. It’s with some mixture of awe, envy, and resignation that we believe that they have access to some supernatural ability that is beyond our grasp. If we were so fortunate to have the talent or the secrets, we would be extraordinary too.

However, the extraordinary we witness is just the final product after a large number of decisions made and actions consistently done leading up to it. Overnight success and extraordinary progress or achievements tend to be years, decades, or lifetimes in the making.

I believe that making extraordinary progress is within reach of everyone simply by doing ordinary things with great consistency and incremental improvements. I will draw on examples from my own life to show what can be achieved simply by consistency and no special talent in writing, knowledge acquisition, running, and programming.
