Star Trek’s Rampant Racism, Senseless Sexism, Nefarious Nationalism, & Simple Socialism

I grew up with Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Picard, and the crew of the Enterprise NCC-1701-D. The bold adventures to seek out new life and new civilizations traveling faster-than-light through space left a deep mark on my younger self about the wondrous universe and even inspired me to pursue physics as a field of study.

However, it is only now in retrospect that I appreciate the full significance of the terrifying hidden messages in these engaging visions of the future. It was actually an insidious form of propaganda and indoctrination into a potent mixture of evil ideologies, packaged and distributed as an innocuous feel-good family show.

I will consider here the racism, sexism, nationalism, and Socialist propaganda throughout the Star Trek franchise, with a focus on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
