Execution Matters More Than Ideas

Ideas are important, but they are not enough

The widespread belief is that a brilliant idea is the secret to propel you ahead of everyone else to become successful. This brilliant idea is assumed to be some unique angle or perspective that only you see that the rest of the world fails to see. It’s just a matter of finding or having that idea and you are on your way to success.

Unfortunately, this is a flawed conception of the power of ideas since it’s really the Execution based on that idea that’s what truly matters. For better or worse, a unique idea is not sufficient, and may not even be necessary.

What this means is that there are no secrets since everything required for success may be already available to everyone in plain sight. This is both liberating and terrifying. Liberating since everyone has access to the tools for success. Terrifying because it also means we have no excuses and it’s entirely our own responsibility to Execute.

I will consider why Execution is so important and why it is far more important than the idea, and provide specific examples in many domains why this is so.

What is Execution?

All Ideas Must Be Implemented
