Chronic Lateness Is a Sign of Disrespect

It is not lateness, but “chronic” lateness that’s the problem

This article is motivated by Lateness isn’t a sign of disrespect by Mr. Aytekin Tank. He seems like a very nice guy, a great person to work with or work for, and appears to have the best of intentions when writing such an article, but I disagree with his views on lateness. I will attempt to articulate reasonable and balanced views on why I completely disagree with him and why I believe that chronic lateness actually is a sign of disrespect.

Occasional Lateness Is Completely Understandable

Nobody is Perfect

First and foremost, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being late once in a while. Nobody is perfect, nor should we expect perfection from our fellow human beings.

You never know what’s going on in other people’s personal lives or minds. There might have been a car alarm, barking dogs, or fighting cats that kept them up the night before and they’re running on fumes and are late today as a result. There may be uncontrollable events such as heavy traffic or a slow subway. I’m used to all of those living in New York City and it is completely understandable.
